Day 5 in Banff was our last day skiing here at these resorts. It started early, as always, and we enjoyed our usual breakfast buffet at Lake Louise upon arrival. Although the weather was pretty pleasant, everyone (especially Pip and I) was tired and sore, and looking for a relaxing day. Ed and Tess skied the most this day, but Pip and I did a number of runs as well.
After the first few runs, and a bit of a scare on the ‘Top of the World’ – following Ed on a wrong turn, and getting stuck in a steep, deep, bowl in the middle of a whiteout – Pip and I returned to the day lodge, looking for a drink and a sit. Nat suggested that we venture with her to see the actual Lake Louise – something that Pip had not done, and I had not done for a number of years. Upon arriving at the Lake, we ventured through the Chateau and made our way onto the Lake – to see the traditional ice castle that is built there every year.
After admiring the pretty scenery, and watching some of the goings on around the Lake, we returned to the Chateau for lunch. It was a much better lunch than would have been offered, say, back at the hill – this meal didn’t come with fries. We returned to the ski hill not long after this, and completed a few additional runs before calling it a day. Ed and I did one final run while the girls organised themselves hot chocolates. This could have been very painful, as we had an interesting run down.
On our last slope, we were skiing – as per normal – when suddenly a man with very little control bumped into me (although didn’t do much but baffle me as to how he could be on the slopes), but then ran straight into a women skiing below me. In the process of completely flattening her, we believe he may have broken her thumb – judging by the pain she was in, and the inability to use the finger with anything that required weight. We skied the rest of the run – a little shaken – and then caught the bus back to Banff with the others.
We were all more than tired when we returned, and we were just sick of hoping that nothing else could possibly go wrong with our accommodation. Luckily, it didn’t. By this stage of the stay in Banff, Pip was yet to see any wildlife roaming the streets as we had promised (and had witnessed in previous years). Ed, Pip and I decided to go on a wildlife walk – down to the Bow River at the back of the hotel, and along the golf course, where Ed assured us that he had seen wildlife before. After walking for over 50 minutes, we returned back to the hotel room to see where Nat and Tess had got to. The only wildlife we did see on the journey, is pictured below.

Unfortunately for Pip, this meant that we still had not seen any real wildlife on the trip except some birds – we would have to keep our eyes open in days to come.
Upon returning we decided on room service for our dinner meal, and spent time reviewing the menu to decide on what we would eat. After enjoying our $200+ meal, and hoping that there was enough money left on the gift card to cover the cost, we returned to our rooms to pack our bags in preparation for tomorrow morning’s early departure.
Although we had thought that previous mornings had been early, the bus to Kicking Horse was set to depart at 7:10am… meaning we had to be up before 6 – not something we were looking forward to a whole lot!
Stay tuned for more news – the photos may take a little longer to get up, as the internet access available here is much slower than was previously available.
