Canada 07/08 – Silver Star – Day 6

Jan 18, 2008
Day 6 – our final day here at Silver Star started with news that the 12-year old boy who was involved in yesterday’s ski-lift accident was in an unknown condition at a Vancouver hospital. The boy was at Silver Star on a school trip, and was in a snowboard lesson at the time. This was good news, because at least the accident hadn’t been a fatality. We woke up at around 8am, and had breakfast as per normal. Ed and Tess once again hit the slopes first, while Pip and I took it a little easier. Once we finally hit the slopes, we decided to ski around the Silver Woods area, with Pip wanting to ski ‘Robin’s Hood’ – a glade run through the trees.... [Read More]

Canada 07/08 – Silver Star – Day 5

Jan 17, 2008
Day 5 started early, with an energetic wake-up call – well, at least for Pip and I with our clock radio going off so loud that I had to jump up and switch it off (to save our ears). We couldn’t sleep much after this, so we decided to just get up (normally we enjoy listening to the local news, but none of this today!). Today had a rather intense couple of events which made it quite interesting for everyone involved. Breakfast was relatively normal, but slightly more fancy trying to use up supplies – we ended up with pancakes in addition to normal breakfast feasts. Pip had a sore stomach, and I had a bad headache, so although we started early, we were moving... [Read More]

Canada 07/08 – Silver Star – Day 4

Jan 16, 2008
Day 4 at Silver Star was our ‘relax’ day. The day was meant to start lazily, with no alarms being set – however, Pip and I were up before 8 as we normally had been the past few days. Nat and Tess were, however, up intentionally early as they had booked transport from here at Silver Star to the town of Vernon – a 15 minute drive (and a $50 taxi ride, so they chose to use a shuttle service). They were in search of a bag, mainly, but I’m sure there were other shopping motivations too! Ed, Pip and I stayed at home and took things very easily. Pip had mentioned the day before that among other things she wanted to do today, one... [Read More]

Canada 07/08 – Silver Star – Day 3

Jan 15, 2008
Day 3 at Silver Star started as did any other day here at Silver Star – about 8am was the alarm wake up call. Breakfast was largely uneventful, but the report coming from Ed reporting a -14C current temperature was not overly comforting. We had had pleasant weather relative to this so far, with max temperatures being about -5C. Ed and Tess hit the slopes first as they always did, followed closely however by Pip and I. We skied a number of runs, and didn’t bump into Ed and Tess the entire morning – the lack of queues meant that there was no waiting around at the bottom of a lift line, and hence less chance of bumping into people on the mountain. We skied... [Read More]
