Canada 07/08 – Silver Star – Day 2

Jan 14, 2008
The day started as normal this morning, with everyone awake by 8am. Breakfast was uneventful, and we tried to hit the slopes as early as possible to make the most of another day of great morning weather. There had been a light dusting of snow and the conditions were (in the most), perfect. Pip and I skied alone for a while during the morning, while Ed and Tess hit the slopes to bust their thighs a little more. We skied around the Silver Woods area for the most part, although we ventured towards the Comet express and skied a number of runs over here as well. We met up with Ed not long after, and we attempted to cover every run in the Silver... [Read More]

Canada 07/08 – Silver Star – Day 1

Jan 13, 2008
Day 1 at Silver Star started at 8am. We woke up after a terrible night’s sleep – the bed was 3 pieces of foam – and slowly made our way downstairs in aches and pains. The lifts opened at 8:30am, so we wanted to try and be out nice and early to make the most of the day, even after such a poor night before. The weather looked fantastic, but unfortunately both Pip and I forgot to grab the camera, and so we have no evidence of this. First stop of the day was to pick up lift tickets – we managed 1 adult, 1 student and 2 youths… not... [Read More]

Canada 07/08 – Kicking Horse to Silver Star

Jan 12, 2008
This morning started at approximately 8am – not too bad considering, but it was bad for me, who was up until after midnight trying to organise the daily post for the day before, and the photos. With all that behind us, we completed the last bit of packing and had breakfast, and were ready to head out the door at about 9am. Pip and I hit the shops quickly for a spot of shopping, although we didn’t find much except for Pip’s ‘Spanky’ – a goggle cleaning cloth with the Kicking Horse trail map printed on it… a very cool souvenir. The taxi-van (vaxi) was organised to collect us at 10:15am… as always, however, the vehicle didn’t arrive until 10:45am. After a number of phone... [Read More]

Canada 07/08 – Kicking Horse – Day 5

Jan 11, 2008
Today was the earliest morning we had had while here at Kicking Horse, with everyone being out of bed before 9am – wow. We dined on the usual breakfast foods, in a bit of a hurry, as we were all itching to get out onto the slopes. We were expecting housekeeping to come knocking at any minute, as they were meant to clean the room on the 4th day – today. Ed and Tess, as always, were out first, followed not far behind by Pip and I. Their head-start was eliminated when they discovered that Ed’s goggles had gone missing, or had been stolen as he suggested. They eventually chose just to buy new ones, as they were unable to find the old ones –... [Read More]
