Canada 07/08 – Kicking Horse – Day 4

Jan 10, 2008
This morning started with Pancakes – mmm – and other breakfast items at about 9:30am. It was one of our earlier starts, as people were receiving considerably more sleep now. Pip’s skis were collected at 10:30am, as they had been put in for waxing the night before (at a bargain $10). By the time Pip and I were ready for the slopes, Ed and Tess had already done a number of runs (as per everyday so far). Pip and I started on the Catamount Quad, which we had done on a few mornings so far, taking us only part-way up the mountain. ‘Big Ben’ was an appealing way to start the day – although you should know that it is one of the more difficult... [Read More]

Canada 07/08 – Kicking Horse – Day 3

Day 3 at Kicking Horse started a little earlier than the day before, but still not overly early (in comparison to days gone by). We ate breakfast in the apartment, dining on French Toast, cereal and bacon & eggs. Ed and Tess hit the slopes, as always, earlier than Pip and I, but only by 30 minutes or so. The weather wasn’t as nice as Monday, being cloudy and a little bit cold, but the cloud layer was only in the middle of the mountain, so at the top is was relatively clear, and at the base the same. Odd hey. Pip and I took it easy, taking the Catamount Quad chair (about 1/4 the way up the mountain) and skied a few of Pip’s... [Read More]

Canada 07/08 – Kicking Horse – Day 2

Today started much slower than any other day… there wasn’t much stirring until about 9:30am, with Pip and I not waking until at least 10am. We woke to discover that the weather wasn’t as great as the day before, in fact, it looked rather snowed over and whited-out at the top of the mountain. Luckily, however, it didn’t look windy through the window, and so we weren’t too concerned. By the time we had had breakfast, although Ed and Tess had hit the slopes earlier, it was basically 11:30am. This was certainly our most lazy day this far – as other days we had had to catch a bus well before this time. The sleep was well needed by all, however, and the relaxing slow-pace... [Read More]

Canada 07/08 – Kicking Horse – Day 1

The day started early – really early… we were on the bus at 7:10am, ready to head to Kicking Horse, just out of a town called Golden (pop 4200). The bus trip took almost 2 hours, and luckily there was no time difference between Banff and Kicking Horse (although Kicking Horse is in a different province). The scenery was excellent to look at along the way – for those of us who were awake – and once the sun finally rose (after we were well past Lake Louise). We arrived at Kicking Horse not long after 9am, and removed our luggage from the bus (it was actually a day-trip ski shuttle bus, and as such, they weren’t as happy as we thought about them... [Read More]
