Canada 08/09 – Whistler – Day 5

Jan 7, 2009
Today it rained – from the time we woke up at 7:30am until we returned from dinner, it just rained. Day 5 at Whistler was not great from a weather front, but wasn’t a bad day overall. We were up at the normal time and ready to head out by 9:30am – when we walked out the front door however, the weather problem became apparent. With heavy rain streaming off the buildings, and enough falling out in the open, we were worried that the snow might all disappear. The roads and walkways were already devoid of snow in the village, and we had just hoped that the freezing level was low enough to escape as we went up the mountains. Canada 08/09 – Whistler – Day 4

Day 4 started early – 7:30am – but soon turned into a late start. We got up and out of bed, only to decide that today would be our non-skiing day, of which we had to have two of due to our ticket arrangements. The forecast was for ongoing snow with high winds, and pretty poor visibility – while it seemed like an obvious choice, unfortunately tomorrow promised to be much of the same, so it was actually a difficult choice to pick the worst of the two. We returned to bed for an hour or so, and got back up at about 9:30am. We had breakfast and then got ready – with the news that the other members of the OnSno team would not... [Read More]

Canada 08/09 – Whistler – Day 3

Day 3 at Whistler started at 7:30am again, although both Pip and I pressed snooze on the alarm one too many times. We were up and had finished breakfast by 9:30am, and were straight outside walking to the slopes. Unfortunately, the hotel’s shuttle bus was in for a routine maintenance check today and so we could not catch it the short distance from here to the base of the mountain. The snowfall from last night was just truly incredible. As you can see from the photos from today, in the village all of the snow that had fallen on the roads and walkways had to be piled up in great mountains in order to remove it from people’s paths. There was just too much to be... [Read More]

Canada 08/09 – Whistler – Day 2

Day 2 at Whistler started as early as yesterday – 7:30am was the alarm. We slept a little longer but were up soon after – as was Ed, who obviously didn’t want to be beaten again this morning as yesterday panned out. We had breakfast in front of the TV, which was unusual for us, but didn’t slow us down a whole lot because the news wasn’t really thrilling. With no complaints about anything room related this morning, we were moving much more quickly and were out of the room by 9:30am. Instead of walking as we had yesterday, we decided to try for the hotel’s small shuttle bus – which unfortunately only took 10 passengers. We walked out to the front of the hotel... [Read More]
