Silver Star Day 4 – Back To The Slopes

Silver Star Day 4 – Back To The Slopes
Today was a little warmer than yesterday (a forecast max of -20C compared to yesterday’s -24C), so we headed back out onto the slopes to try and enjoy the otherwise fantastic conditions (apart from the lack of blue sky of course) that Silver Star had to offer. Tori was still aching from the first few days of learning the ropes, so she had another restful day. I met up with the rest of the crews for morning tea (just after 10:30am) at Bugaboos Bakery – a truly Australian establishment here at Silver Star. Luckily this wasn’t actually a lunch break, as I’d only just had breakfast, so a quick coffee later and we were back to the snow – minus Tess, who decided to spend... [Read More]

Silver Star Day 3 – Absolute Nothingness

Silver Star Day 3 – Absolute Nothingness
Today we did nothing. Really and truly, nothing. The forecast was for -23C, but for most of the day the temperature sat at about -24.6C (if you asked Ed). We took this as a good opportunity to rest our (slightly) aching bodies, and save ourselves from having to wear 62 layers of clothing just to survive until lunchtime. Instead, the only time we left the building was to dash between the back door and the hot tub. Unlike other days, Tori and I started our day with a hot tub. Ed decided not to join us, but instead began building his version of a snowman – using a shovel and a hi-viz vest. The vest, apparently, was only to be worn by the chief snowman... [Read More]

Silver Star Day 2 – Building Up, Falling Down

Silver Star Day 2 – Building Up, Falling Down
Although today started with an 8:30am alarm, and yes, the alarm did go off as per the desired setting (this was unexpected), Tori woke up and got up while I continued to enjoy the coziness of the tiny bed we were bunking in. We did have good intentions of getting out onto the slopes a little earlier than yesterday, but unfortunately an episode of CSI:Miami managed to weasel its way into our morning routine. By the time the episode had finished (although it was a cliffhanger, and left completely unresolved in the end) and we had made it outside, it was close to 10:30am. Today was our second day on the slopes here at Silver Star, and Tess had decided it was another day on the... [Read More]

Silver Star Day 1 – Determination

Silver Star Day 1 – Determination
Today was our first full day here at Silver Star Mountain Resort, and after the events of yesterday, we decided we deserved a sleep-in (rather than just having one). This was of course until the sun rose, as the blinds in our room were perhaps not the most light-blocking ones to have been hung in a place where darkness is desired. Regardless, although we stirred many times, we slept in until about 9am which was quite an effort all things considered. Today Tess was spending the day on the pond – ice skating and playing hockey – so her skis, boots, poles, and other related equipment was up for grabs. Tori decided that she had had enough après ski for a while and was determined... [Read More]
