Banff to Silver Star – The Girl With The Greyhound Tattoo

Banff to Silver Star – The Girl With The Greyhound Tattoo
Disclaimer: today something funny happened. In fact, it was probably the most hilarious and strange thing to happen the whole journey. However, I can’t guarantee that it’s quite as funny for those who weren’t there. I’ll certainly try though. Today was another one of our travel days – the biggest one since we’d arrived here in Canada, and nobody was particularly looking forward to the time to be spent sitting on a bus. We woke up earlier than normal (but not as early as previously) and were downstairs in the Banff Springs Lobby at 8:15am – just in time to see groups of participants from last night’s celebrity ski challenge gala leaving the hotel… but unfortunately, still nobody we recognised. In the few days that... [Read More]

Banff Day 3 – Yet Another Lazy Day…

Banff Day 3 – Yet Another Lazy Day…
Today was another one of our lazy days. I’m not going to pretend, there’s really nothing much to report here. After having a slow morning, Ed, Nat and Tess ventured into Banff while Tori and I settled in for a day of taking it easy. We found ourselves downstairs in the Castle Pantry for lunch, with the hope of spotting some celebrities, but were unlucky yet again. We did spot some of the participants from the 2012 Fairmont Sports Invitational, but they weren’t celebrities as far as we could tell! After a bite to eat and a spot of shopping, we headed for the Rundle Lounge with books in hand (electronic ones, of course) where we proceeded to spend the remainder of the afternoon. Later... [Read More]

Banff Day 2 – Journey to the Lake

Banff Day 2 – Journey to the Lake
Today was our second full day here in Banff, but we spent the majority of it in Lake Louise. We woke up a little earlier than normal and were onboard the 10am bus from the Banff Springs to the Lake Louise ski area. Although this journey is a good hour’s drive (after making a few stops at other hotels to pick up skiers and boarders), it’s a very picturesque one. The drive was uneventful and we arrived at the Lake Louise ski area just after 11am. The weather was a typical Lake Louise day – about -12C with considerable wind chill – but luckily today we were dressed appropriately. We had a short wait until the Chateau Lake Louise shuttle arrived and then were on... [Read More]

Banff Day 1 – Tourist Town

Banff Day 1 – Tourist Town
Today was our first full day in Banff (although we did arrive yesterday afternoon), and while Ed and Tess were up nice and early headed for Sunshine, one of the local ski resorts near Banff, Tori and I had an easy morning and enjoyed a much-needed sleep-in. It was around 11:30am before we got moving and headed out into the -12C air (plus a considerable windchill), and quite stupidly decided to walk into town – about 15 minutes of walking head-first into the wind, coupled with complaints for all parties (except Nat) for the entire journey. As soon as we reached the main street, we ducked into the nearest shop purely to warm up. I guess most shops are probably used to this kind of... [Read More]
